Three generations of rock guitarists come together for It Might Get Loud, a 2009 documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth). These are not just your garden-variety guitar gods: Jimmy Page, in his mid-'60s at the time of the film, founded Led Zeppelin, who dominated the 1970s following the breakup of the Beatles. As a member of U2, 48-year-old David Evans, better known as the Edge, created one of the most distinctive and influential sounds of the past quarter century. And 34-year-old Jack White (of the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather) was described by one music publication as "the most significant rock 'n' roll figure of the past ten years." Guggenheim, who followed the three around for the better part of a year, takes us into their individual lives, past and present. There are shots of Page as a young London session musician, with the Yardbirds and Zeppelin, at Headley Grange (the estate where much of the fourth Zep album was made), and at home with his record collection. The Edge takes us to the Dublin classroom where U2 first rehearsed, as well as to the practice room he uses now (never a virtuoso soloist, he developed a style based on texture and a mind-boggling array of effects); and White, whose insistence on authenticity is admirable but perhaps a tad self-conscious, constructs a "guitar" from a plank of wood, a piece of wire, and a Coke bottle (he also plays a recording by the primitive bluesman Son House, featuring just voice and handclaps, that White says is still his biggest inspiration). The three also converge on a Hollywood sound stage, where they chat and a do a little jamming on Zep's "In My Time of Dying" (with all three playing slide guitar) and the Band's "The Weight." It's hard to say if the film's appeal will extend beyond guitar freaks and fans of these particular bands, but at the very least, It Might Get Loud offers some interesting insight into the soul and inspiration behind some of pop's best and most popular music. --Sam Graham

Jimmy Page recently made his return to the stage for his first live performance since the historic Led Zeppelin reunion concert of December 10th 2007. Page, along with Led Zeppelin bass guitarist John Paul Jones, had accepted an invitation to perform as one of the Foo Fighters 'Special Guests' at the Foo's June 7th 2008 gig at Wembley Stadium in London. Page and Jones strolled onstage during the encore of the Foo's concert set proceeding to tear into the Zep classic 'Rock and Roll' with Dave Grohl doing the drumming while Taylor Hawkins took over as vocalist. As Wembley Stadium shook with absolutely thunderous applause, Hawkins and Grohl quickly switched positions to join Page and Jones in a rousing rendition of 'Ramble On' (from the Led Zeppelin II album) before the ecstatic capacity crowd of 85,000 plus rabid rock fans. Page and Jones then exited the stage before the Foo's final song of the night. The evening was capped off nicely with fireworks exploding in the sky above the stadium as the Foo Fighters bandmembers headed off to the after show party. DVD can be purchased HERE.

The Song Remains The Same on Vinyl [4LP-180 Gram Vinyl Deluxe Set] {Order } THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME {EXPANDED & REMASTERED SOUNDTRACK}, available as a collectible 4-LP 180-GRAM VINYL Deluxe Set, premiered on CD in late 2007 to coincide with Led Zeppelin's historic reunion for a concert in London benefiting the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund and honoring the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Featuring music from the band's classic 1976 concert film, the set captures performances recorded during their legendary three-night stand at Madison Square Garden in July of 1973. Originally released in '76, the soundtrack now includes six additional songs. All fifteen songs were remixed and remastered under the supervision of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones. Featured are epic live versions of Led Zeppelin classics including “Rock And Roll,” “Dazed And Confused,” “Stairway To Heaven” and “Whole Lotta Love.” The six bonus tracks that were not part of the original 1976 release are: “Black Dog,” “Over the Hills and Far Away,” “Misty Mountain Hop,” “Since I've Been Loving You,” “The Ocean” and “Heartbreaker.” With the added material and meticulous remastering, Jimmy Page says that THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME (EXPANDED & REMASTERED SOUNDTRACK), “differs substantially from the original soundtrack released in 1976, and highlights the technical prowess of Kevin Shirley, who worked with us on How The West Was Won. When it comes to THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME, the expansion of the DVD and soundtrack are as good as it gets on the Led Zeppelin wish list.” The package also boasts new liner notes by Academy Award®-winning director and former Rolling Stone editor Cameron Crowe. order now

Created with Jimmy's approval and assistance, the Jimmy Page Limited Edition figure is the result of years of work on the part of creative director Tony Simerman and his team of designers at Knucklebonz USA. The number of figurines available is restricted to just 3000 worldwide. Each fully licensed figurine, standing nine inches tall atop its wooden display base, is individually hand-painted and numbered, with a certificate of authenticity included. The suit's dragons and poppies are sculpted, with an embroidered effect, owing to Jimmy's insistence that they not merely be painted or printed onto the figure. The sculpture captures an iconic moment in time, during the 1977 Led Zeppelin tour, depicting him during a performance of “Dazed and Confused” with his Gibson Les Paul guitar in hand and a violin bow raised above his head.
In preparation for making the figurine, Simerman and his team flew to London to meet Jimmy and have a look at the poppy suit up close. A model was then hired to pose in the suit for a detailed photograph session. Page also allowed access to a life mask of his face that had been made for his fantasy sequence in the 1976 Led Zeppelin movie "The Song Remains The Same".
